The Department of Management prepares the State budget proposal for the Governor that is delivered to the Legislature as required under Iowa Code Chapter 8.22. The Department also facilitates the work of the Revenue Estimating Council in determining revenue estimates under Iowa Code Chapter 8.22A. It assists state agencies in budget preparation to achieve desired results of Iowa state government. It is responsible for evaluating the fiscal and policy impacts of program and budget proposals and making this information available to decision makers.
The Department also receives all local taxing authority budgets and certifies the budgets upon which the consolidated property tax levies are based. (see: About Local Budget & Finance)
